Somalia Aug. 25 severed diplomatic relations with Libya and
ordered the Libyan embassy staff in Mogadishu to leave Somalia within 48 hours.
[See p. 202E3]
The Somali action, taken at an Aug. 24 meeting of the country's
Supreme Revolutionary Council, was triggered by what the Somalis called Libyan
leader Col. Muammer el-Qaddafi's "conspiracies against the Somali people and
for backing the Ethiopian regime against the Muslim peoples in western Somalia
[Ogaden], Abbo and Eritrea."
