Reports reaching Ogaden online service desk from Jigjiga province confirm the burning down of 6 towns and hamlets by the Ethiopian military and its associated militias in and around the province. The burning down of towns took place on August 18th, 2010. It is reported that all property was lost in the burnt down towns and hamlets.
The Ethiopian military is reported to have ordered all town and hamlet dwellers to move to unspecified places. Some of the burned down town and hamlets include the following:
- Hora Khaliifo
- Qoraar
- Shacabka
- Dhalaan Dhiga
- Dhurwaale.
All our on the ground reports indicate that many of the displaced civilians are squatting in the vicinity of the burnt down towns and hamlets. At the time of publishing this report, there has been no emergency aid given to these displaced people by anyone.
This is not the first time Ethiopian Army went on Town Burning Spree in Ogaden. It was March 17-21, 2010 when Ethiopian army burned 12 towns and hamlets near Jigjiga and it was just 2 weeks ago when Ethiopian army burned down the village of Gola Beero near Babili.
In related news Ethiopian army killed one man in the Malqaqa vilage. The name of the deceased man is said to be Axmed Aw-Yusuf Baribari.
Human rights organizations accuse the Ethiopian soldiers of violating the human rights by harassing the people in the Ogaden region.
