Institute for Horn of Africa Studies and Affairs (IHASA) is pleased to announce its annual conference addressing the crucial international crisis facing the Horn of Africa region, particularly in the Somali Region (The Ogaden). The theme of this year, “Looking Back and Looking Forward: The Somali Region (The Ogaden) in the 21st Century,” will be co-hosted in collaboration with the Human Rights Center at the University of Minnesota on the weekend of June 18th to June 20th.The Ogaden Region has been torn apart by the ongoing conflict which resulted in hundreds of innocent lives lost and significant human rights abuses. The purpose of this conference is to connect the local Diaspora community with prominent leaders, organizations, government representatives, academics and scholars to address the current political, social, and economic issues in the Ogaden as well as future prospects for peace.
There will be many of Horn of Africa’s prominent scholars present at the conference, including Dr. Bereket Hebte Selassie of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Edmond Keller of the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), Dr. Ted Vestal from Oklahoma University, Mr. Faisal Roble, independent scholar, Dr. Asfaw Beyene from San Diego State University, Dr. Samantha Hurst from the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) and Dr. Ali Khalif Galaydh, former Prime Minister of Somalia’s Transitional Federal Government as well as many other scholars from various universities. In addition to these leading scholars, knowledgeable representatives from influential human rights and peace-building organizations such as Human Rights Watch, Alliance for Peace-building, and Genocide Watch will present their research. These scholars and representative of Non-governmental Organizations will provide a framework to assess both the conflict itself and conflict resolutions in the context of the National Regional State (the Ogaden) and the broader social change taking place in Ethiopia.
We hope that this conference will create a platform to exchange ideas, and generate discussion, as well as raise the awareness about the injustices endured by the people in the Somali Region.
IHASA is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to document, research, analyze, publish and disseminate information on the political and socio-economic justice issues affecting the people in the Horn of Africa and Diaspora community. IHASA strongly believes that the people of the Horn of Africa, given the opportunities necessary, are productive and the region is very dynamic and resourceful. Through conferences such as this, IHASA supports policies and actions that contribute to the advancement of good governance and the elimination of conflicts in the Horn of Africa.

Brothers, I think brother Laamaloodshe raised a valid point, which I agree with him. We should not lose our head because of our justifiable anger to the Somali traitors who distroyed the Somali State and turned the nationhood to clanism and what they call now four tribes and half for the benift of Ethiopian interest, We should always take the nationalist moral high ground and the wider view of the picture.

First of all I would say you are neither from Ogaden nor from Somalia. The reason I am saying this is that you are completely ignorant about the history, sociology, culture and anthropology of the people that you imitate you know something about.

The land is known as Ogaden but the people are called Somalis.

Ok. Let me talk in terms that you may understand (ileen damiin far waaweyn baa loox loogu qoraaye) . When Ogaden gets its independence of course they may be called Ogadenis or any other name they choose, it is a democratic process, but that will not take away their somaliness.
Let me give you same examples as you seem to have the notion that people understand more with examples.
People who live in YEMEN are Arabs

Similarly

I think we should not pursue the matter of bashir any further. The main issu is how to rid the Ogaden, Somalia and the Horn of the Devil called EPRDF aca TPLF. Thisis what people should concentrate on, Bashir is trying his best and I won't bother much about him. By the Way Mogadishu was the capital of the Somali nation and being a mogadishan does not mean that everyone comes from a particular group. Dialects and names are a heritage to all Somalis. And to be frank with you, for me, Somalis are one- I don't believe in artificila boundaries or little tin men/women locked in useless boxes called this or that- I am equally at home with any part of the Somali nation and for the last sixty years almost every one in this world was busy destroying the Sense of Somaliness. Unfortunately our worst enemy had been ourselves- The Somalis. Bashir's confusion is a syndrome of the deeper ailment the Somali nation is suffering and I suggest to the few left that have a little sense of Somaliness in them, start the uphill struggle of redeeming the Somali Nation. From what I see, the Ogaden part is the easiest, since they know their enemy, but the wider Somali nation had falled under the spell of the great illusionist Emperor designate Meles Zee, who psycholically dominated them. I was recently conversing with a group of my former classmates and most of them were so pathetic in their subservient attitude towards Ethiopia, I was close to throwing up, in my revulsion towards how low my brethen had sunk. That is why I am reading your posts and responding here, because this is one of the few websites that affords me to breath a little fresh air. I once read a quote which said, “Some people dream of success while others wake up and work hard at it.” And that is why I adore the Ogaden struggle, while other Somalis are busy dreaming of bygone or coming successes, the Ogaden Somalis have woken already and are working had at removing the shackles of the Ethiopian colonialism. I am here strongly supporting that article written by Bashir, I also believe that he is a wise pure Ogadenian.
There is nothing called ignorance.
Neither bashir nor ONLF supporters are ignorance, keep in your mind that for the future use.
I should like to mention What I always hear nowdays and it became an east african calture, I can't say somali calture because I beleive that non of you is either somali or Ogadenian,you are those Tigray from Mekele using our Somali/Ogadenian names.

I am here strongly supporting that article written by Bashir, I also believe that he is a wise pure Ogadenian.

You guys need 2 wake up and smell the coffee, its almost over and pretty soon we will be the ones who will make the future blue prints for our people's region( Ogadeenya), unless we still wanna be an addicts to our people's blood,so lets please stop pointing out one another's BS and work on one common goal in order to help those who cant help themselves... BACKWORD NEVER FORWORD FOREVER!!!! And leave Bashiir alone for crying out loud he is doing a great. keep it up brothers and sisters.
