Recent battle between ONLF and the Woyana Forces

In response to colonialist Ethiopia's illegal military occupation of Ogaden's land and in response to the atrocities committed by enemy Ethiopian troops against civilians, Ogaden liberation forces have carried out unremitting attacks against Ethiopian military bases, inflicting devastating damage on colonialist Ethiopian soldiers.

On 2 July 2009, Ogaden liberation forces and colonialist Ethiopian troops fought a battle in the village of Las Galol in the district of Garasley, Nogob province. Eighteen Ethiopian soldiers were killed and 10 others were wounded, some seriously, in the battle.

On 3 July 2009, six Ethiopian soldiers were killed and an unknown number of others wounded in a battle that took place in East Imi district in Shebelle province.

On 5 July 2009, Ogaden liberation forces carried out a nocturnal attack on a colonialist army garrison in Abakorow town in Shebelle province, killing many soldiers and wounding two others. On the same date a fierce battle took place in Malka Dhabar, Guris, between Ogaden liberation forces and Ethiopian troop. Seven soldiers were killed and 11 others were wounded in the fighing. Also on the same date, fighting occurred in Duduma Ad in Nogob province, during which three Ethiopian soldiers were killed and two others were wounded.

On 7 July 2009, in Gabagabo, in Nogob province, Ogaden liberation mounted a surprise attack on enemy troops based there, killing three soldiers and wounding four others.

On 6 July 2009, specially trained ONLF martyrs carried out a military operation inside Shilabo town. The martyrs were responding to repeated requests from residents of the town and surrounding areas that ONLF forces take action against the administrator of the town and its security chief for the suffering they had inflicted upon civilians. The deputy administrator of the town, one of his bodyguards, and the security chief were killed in the operation. One bodyguard of the Shilabo town's deputy administrator was also wounded.

Reports from the town say that the deputy administrator died later of wounds received in the attack.

IS ERITREA A FRIEND OR FOE?......

Is Eritrea a friend or foe? I was pondering over this question for a while and i have came to a conclusion that Eritrea is both a friend and a foe of the Ogaden people and their righteous struggle for self determination and independence. Now some you are asking "how can that be?". well my friends it all comes down to little thing called national interest.
how i came to this conclusion is i put myself in the shoes of the Eritrean president Essais Afeworki and i put in mind the socio political, economical, geographical demographic makeup and host of other things are president should think of to preserve the national interest of his or her people.
First, what we know is the Eritrean regime hates the leadership in Addis ababa and not the Ethiopian people. Asmara would like to see Meles and his cronies deposed, but they don't want an unstable and lawless Ethiopia. In short they don't want another Somalia in their doorstep. this is in part to ramifications it will cause for Eritrea if Ethiopian regime colapses and there is massive influx of refugees to little poor Eritrea. So. Eritrea has tread waters carefully not to break the backbone of the regime in Addis ababa, but at the same time they can't control their hatred and anger for Meles and the TPLF for the 1997-1998 war that caused Eritrea a massive military casualties. don't forget Eritrea is far less populous than Ethiopia and a mass casualties is a significant national tragedy. so, for that reason Eritrea can't control itself on wanting to punish Ethiopian leadership while not significantly unstablizing the country. that is why Eritrea needs organisations like the Onlf, OLF and host of other rebel groups to do the biting for Eritrea, while not causing a systemic damage to Ethiopian regime. If Eritrea senses the rebels are doing a serious harm Asmara will lessen the support to the rebels and when the rebels are weakened Asmara will increase support.
It is not in the national interest of Eritrea to have a lawless Ethiopia as a neighbor. They rather have meles zenawi in power than have the serious ramifications of having a failed state like Somalia as a neighbor. this will make Eritrea in itself an unstable country.
Secondly, no one will support you financially, politically, military and so on, if that country did not have a fested interest in you. so, what is the interest Eritrea is seeking in support rebel groups and islamist against Ethiopia?. Eritrea and Ethiopia went to war over little town {badme}. 80,000 men lost their lives over the that town. This war was all about ego and prowess. Meles wanted Eritrea back and Eritrea said come and get us. My friends the interest is " go and slap my enemy for me, but don't kill him. if you kill him i might die as well". I seriously think if Meles is about to be overthrown and there is no serious alternative to save Ethiopia from fragmentation Afeworki would step in and save his tigrean cousin. after all they are tigreys.
Eritrea is caught up in this dilema and who ever understands their mentality can take full advantage of them.
