E-mail Print PDF

Reports that reached our service desk in the last 72 hours confirm the burning down of the entire provision both those in storage and those in current supply in the villages of Abshir and Madheedh. Both villages are about ten and 15 kilometers West of the city of Gunagado, respectively.

This burning follows mass murder carried out recently by the Ethiopian military in the town of Gunagado on Feb 19, 2012.

So far eyewitnesses confirmed Eyewitnesses reported that the Ethiopian Army and its associated Liyu Police,( a Janjaweed-like Militia) killed 10 farmers in the villages of Abshir and Madheedh, including women and children and wounded dozens. In addtion, the Ethiopian army looted over 200 goats, 9 Camels and 6 Donkeys from the residence.

It is not the first time that the Ethiopian military has destroyed all provisions in an Ogaden city or town. It begun  November 2006 when the Ethiopian military destroyed all provisions in the Fooljeex.

Our reporters indicate that the destruction of food supply appears to be another tool employed for the repression of the Ogaden civilians. It comes at the heels of mass detentions and pronouncements from Addis Ababa indicating a new tactic even though is not new,
