A meeting organized by the Ogaden community in Edmonton, Alberta Canada was yesterday held at the one of the iconic hotels in Edmonton. This meeting whose main objectives was the briefing of the community on the role it could play in this year’s annual Ogaden Diaspora convention which is slated to be held in Toronto, Ontario in the summer.
The meeting was well attended. Attendees came from as far away as Fort McMurray, Calgary, Alberta and Toronto, Ontario. Among the attendees were respected elders, OLNF officials, intellectuals, youth and the Ogaden women league in the Alberta area.
The head of the Ogaden community of Edmonton Mr. Abdiraxman provided a well-received report on the accomplishments of the community this past year. He has highlighted the challenges ahead for the community in the New Year and he indicated the community’s unwavering support, both financial and moral, of the annual Ogaden Diaspora community convention to be held in Toronto, Ontario in the summer.
Given his pedigree, Professor Hassan shared with the attendees with the proposed budget of the conference and itemized breakdown of projected costs. He also shared with the community the plans to make this year’s convention a success not only with the addition of a full day dedicated to the academics to debate the reasons behind the global community’s lack of response to the Ogaden plight, but also with a new play specifically created for this year’s convention.
While thanking the Edmonton community in particular, and the Ogaden communities throughout Alberta, Professor Hassan emphasized the need for the community to fully participate in making the convention the most successful one to date. In turn, the community led by its chair, elders, and intellectuals pledged to not only support the convention financially, but to also send full Alberta delegation to help with the organization of the convention.
We will share with you the pictures of this gathering when they become available
