According to eyewitnesses over 20 traditional leaders were arrested. This illegal mass arrest took place in the city of Dhanaan on October 28, 2011.
Those reportedly arrested are reported to religious leaders and the men of advancing age. Our reporters are still compiling lists of the names of the people who are detetained. The report adds that there are many confirmed injuries and Ethiopian soldiers are denying any medical treatment or visit from relatives. A preliminary list we have received so far contains the following names:
- Xuseen Dubad Xasan
- Cabdi Hanad Xaaji Axmed Cali
- Ibraahin Khaliif Dhabar
- Maxamed Xuseen Nuur
- Xaaji Cabdirisaaq Sheikh Axmed
- Dhool Duud Xuseen
- Cabdi Foolxun
It is reported that the elders were arrested after they refused to bring or hand their boys to join the local militia created by Ethiopian authority in Ogaden. The head of Ethiopian army in Gode visited Dhanaan recently and ordered these mass arrest and give further instructions regarding the new genocide campaign that is being planned for the rest of the civilians in Dhanaan.
These mass arrest act, although not new, appear coordinated. They also are on the increase. Locals attribute to the increased mass arrest act as the ‘only’ way the Woyane (Ethiopian) militias could retaliate against the recent heavy military losses they have sustained in the hands of the Ogaden National Liberation Army (ONLA) personnel.
Human rights organizations accuse the Ethiopian soldiers of violating the human rights by harassing the people in the Ogaden region.
