Fifteen civilians were kidnapped from the town of Xamaro as confirmed by local eye witnesses. This kidnapping of civilians follows in the footsteps of illegal detentions that have taken place throughout Ogaden in the past couple of years. Reliable sources report that the kidnapped civilians were immediately transported to unkown destination.
The bodies of many of the civilians who were rounded up by the Ethiopian military personnel in the area have been found in the outskirts of the city showing severe signs of tortured. Some of the deceased were hanged from trees. So far our reporters in the area were able to compile an initial list of the deceased that consists of 4 individuals. Their names include:
- Bashiir Budul Maxamed
- Mustafe Kaahiye Ciise
- Abdi Maxamed Xasan
- Shariifo Dahabo Shariif Axmed
These mass arrest act, although not new, appear coordinated. They also are on the increase. Locals attribute to the increased mass arrest act as the ‘only’ way the Woyane (Ethiopian) militias could retaliate against the recent heavy military losses they have sustained in the hands of the Ogaden National Liberation Army (ONLA) personnel.
Human rights organizations accuse the Ethiopian soldiers of violating the human rights by harassing the people in the Ogaden region.
