Reports that have reached the Ogaden Online service desk from Feer Feer town which is part of Shabelle province confirm recent mass arrest carried out by the Ethiopian military deployed in the area and its associated Militia. According to eyewitnesses over 30 people were arrested. This illegal mass arrest took place in the city of Feer feer on February 9, 2011.

Those reportedly arrested are reported to include women, religious leaders and the men of advancing age. Our reporters are still compiling lists of the names of the people who are detetained. The report adds that there are many confirmed injuries and Ethiopian soldiers are denying any medical treatment or visit from relatives. A preliminary list we have received so far contains the following names:

  1. Sh. Rashiid C/llaahi Sheegoow (82 years old)
  2. Sh. Deeqoow C/llaahi Koosaar (70 years old)
  3. Xasan khaliif (70 years old)
  4. C/llaahi John Cumar Maxamuud
  5. Maxamuud Sh. Diiriye
  6. Fardoowsa Abdullahi Rashaad
    Maxamed C/llaahi Ismaaciil
  7. Bukhaari

It is reported that Cabdi Sonkor, the so called head of Shabelle (Gode) chairman visited Feer Feer recently and ordered these mass arrest and give further instructions regarding the new genocide campaign that is being planned for the rest of the civilians in Fee Feer.

These mass arrest act, although not new, appear coordinated. They also are on the increase. Locals attribute to the increased mass arrest act as the ‘only’ way the Woyane (Ethiopian) militias could retaliate against the recent heavy military losses they have sustained in the hands of the Ogaden National Liberation Army (ONLA) personnel.

Human rights organizations accuse the Ethiopian soldiers of violating the human rights by harassing the people in the Ogaden region.
