Ogaden fighters claim battlefield successes over Ethiopian forces

E-mail Print PDF

The Ogaden National Liberation Front Army [armed wing of the rebel Ogaden National Liberation Front, ONLF] is continuing its offensive against Ethiopian army troops, where Woyane forces are engaged in fighting against ONLF freedom fighters.

The latest fighting occurred on 4 April 2011 near the strategic town of Jigjiga, a place called Horo Hawd which lies on the road between Harer and Jijiga, a main supply route for the Ethiopian army in Ogaden. The liberation forces attacked and captured the Ethiopian army garrison of Horo Hawd, killing 30 soldiers and wounding dozens. The liberation army destroyed the garrison, burning a military vehicle and capturing large stockpiles of food, medicine and ammunition.

In addition, the liberation army seized 9 Ak-47 assault rifles, one BKM and sattelite communication radios.

Since mid-2010 the ONLF liberation army has seized the military initiative and Ethiopia has been forced to be on the defensive while trying to hide its military weakness by engaging in propaganda war, falsely claiming peace deals with surrogates it created, nicknaming them an ONLF faction.

Human rights organizations accuse the Ethiopian soldiers of violating the human rights by harassing the people in the Ogaden region.
