Any objective analyst of Ethiopian affairs would agree with the utter failure of the Woyane-led regime’s first foray of propaganda dispensation to the Diaspora in the West.
It now appears that the regime has targeted Western colleges such as the University of Toronto in Canada, Howard University in Washington, USA, and Imperial College in London as its chosen venues for holding what it terms as the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP).To understand why the regime has chosen such non-political and esteemed institutions of higher learning as venues for its moribund propaganda that many in the Diaspora colloquially call it as the ‘Grow TPLF Pockets,’ one has to look at the prevailing psychology in Addis Ababa.
For a purveyor of anything to be believable, one must have an official title such as Dr., Professor and the like. One must have also an ‘official stamp,’ which by the way could be found and bought from every street corner in Addis Ababa. Moreover, one must somehow be affiliated with a learning institution such as a university.
It is with three things in mind that the Woyane regime has carefully chosen many Western colleges as the venue for its GTP propaganda. It hoped that, at the very least, many in the Diaspora who would not otherwise come and listen to their propaganda could be pursued to attend with the choice of venue.
Although the Woyane regime saw benefits in persuading the universities to hold what it termed as a ‘conference,’ but was no more than mere propaganda, we, the Ogaden Editorial Board, OEB, believe that it did not consider the openness of these institutions as a golden opportunity for its detractors in the Diaspora to disrupt its meetings.
It is with the openness in these institutions that allowed protesters to successfully disrupt and force the cancelation of the so-called meeting at Howard University, for example. It is also the same reason why the protesters in Toronto were successful in barricading the main, and only, entrance to the meeting held at the University of Toronto.
Albeit repeated requests from the Woyane meeting organizers, the police refused to move the protesters from the main entrance hence forcing would-be meeting attendees to either turn tail or to brace hostile reception while going through the protesters camped at the main entrance.
Had these universities known the real objective of these so-called meetings, OEB believes that these esteemed institutions would not agree to become unwitting pawns to the Woyane propaganda machine. Although OEB is prepared to give these institutions the benefit of the doubt, but we request that they investigate the individuals whose names were used to book the conference rooms.
We believe the alumni card should not be the sole carte blanche that allows a foreign entity such as the Woyane clique in Addis Ababa to sully the name of an esteemed institution by holding its propaganda dispensation meetings there.
