Octogenarian detained in Dhuure Town |
Aug 23.
2006 Reports reaching our service desk
from the town of Dhuure which is part of the
Qorahey province indicate the illegal
detention of two civilians one of whom is an
ailing octogenarian. This illegal detention
of civilians by the Ethiopian militias
deployed in Dhuure took place on August
17th, 2006.
The names of the detained civilians are as
follows:
Barre Cismaan Cajab, an ailing
octogenarian.
Cabdi Xaakin Xasan Biixi
Eye witnesses report that the two civilians
were severely tortured immediately following
their detention. They are said to have been
transported since to Qabri Dahar. Qabri
Dahar is becoming the center of all civilian
detentions as all those detained from all
over Qorahey province are transported there.
Sources, who requested anonymity due to the
sensitivity of their reports, indicate that
the health situation of these two detained
individuals is not good. They indicate that
the two civilians are on the verge of death
due to the injuries sustained while being
tortured by the Ethiopian militias. They add
that the two civilians have not received
proper medical care.
The two civilians have been accused to have
relatives in the Ogaden National Liberation
Front (ONLF). Ogaden Online reporter in
Qorahey zone reports that most of the people
detained in the province lately have been
accused to have relatives within the ONLF
forces however he adds many of the accused
have no relatives within ONLF.
Reliable sources say that Ethiopian forces
have neither mechanism nor the intention to
verify whether accusations of having one’s
relatives within the ONLF are actually true
but they rely wholly on informants many of
whom may have an axe to grind.
