Recruiting for Spooks within the Civil Servants

Aug 24, 2006 Reports reaching our service desk from many parts of Ogaden indicate that Tigrey military officials leading the failed campaign to uproot Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) from Ogaden are in midst of the preparations to convene two major gatherings, one in Jig Jiga and the other in Godey.

It is reported that the so-called regional state administration have been ordered to help the military in getting large numbers of the Ogaden civil servants to attend these planned meetings. The two meetings are planned for end of August, 2006.

Sources privy to the planning of these meetings indicate that the intended audience for these meetings are all teachers both primary and high school, and all county administrators throughout Ogaden.

One of our Ogaden Online and Radio Xoriyo reporters who investigated the objectives behind these meetings, have found out that the mission is to recruit large number of spooks within the ranks of teachers, students and potentially within the heads of the county administrations.

Sources who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity surrounding the planned meetings indicate that some military personnel are not hopeful that spooks can be found within the targeted communities. They add that the military believes even if spooks are found that many will be afraid to venture outside cities which make their usefulness limited.

Sources add that a section of the so-called regional administration and two individuals said to be close to the Prime ministry’s office appear to be the driving force behind the planned meetings. It is this group that believes a successful recruitment exercises can be carried out within the ranks of the targeted communities.

Our reporter in Nogob province believes that ever since the Ethiopian military failed to succeed in its mission to uproot ONLF from Ogaden, the number of spies willing to provide meaningful intelligence about ONLF has diminished hence the need for new recruitment exercises.
